I love giving gifts. Not only do I carefully consider who will be receiving the gift, I’m also intentional about where that gift comes from. Who made it? What resources were used to create it? Will it be enjoyed by the person receiving it? I ask similar questions when I shop for my groceries and clothes so why not do the same for the gifts I give my friends and family.
The holiday craft fair season has begun here in the Monadnock region of New Hampshire, making it a great opportunity to get my hands on some local, handcrafted goods. However, for those stubborn family members for whom I just can’t seem to find the perfect “local” sustainable gift, I turn to some of my favorite companies online. Here are some sustainable gift ideas that I look forward to sharing (and hopefully receiving!) this holiday season.
Who wouldn’t want to adopt a wild animal? Symbolically, of course. The Sierra Club has created a fun way to donate money to their conservation efforts by inviting you to adopt a wild animal such as a Red Fox, Sea Otter, or even a Snowy Owl. In return for your donation, you will receive an adorable plush animal, an 8-page full color booklet, and the satisfaction of knowing that your symbolic adoption will help to protect these wild animals and the wild places they call home.

Klean Kanteen is a family-owned B Corp dedicated to creating high-quality reusable products that keep single-use waste from trashing the world.
