Now In: Badger's Own Natural Standard
About Badger's Ingredients
Plants, Minerals and Beeswax
Badger began in a home kitchen, with Bill and Katie mixing food grade ingredients into natural healing skin care products. We still follow the same basic principles in formulating and manufacturing our products. Our botanical ingredients are planted, harvested and processed with human hands and they have no contact with any chemicals. And, our products are made with traditional processes and ingredients that have been used for hundreds or thousands of years.
What raw ingredients do we use?
• Rich Oils (organic extra virgin olive oil, organic coconut oil, etc.)
• Essential Oils & Extracts (organic rosemary, organic ginger, organic peppermint, etc.)
• Butters (Wild African shea butter & Fair Trade cocoa butter)
• Beeswax – will be certified organic by August 2008
• Minerals (zinc oxide and pumice) & Alkali (sodium hydroxide – to make soap from oil)
• Nothing else. We use no preservatives, no emulsifiers, no colors, nothing derived from petroleum and nothing synthetic, toxic, harmful or controversial.
How are our ingredients processed? Badger uses minimally refined ingredients that are processed without chemical solvents or chemical additives. Badger prefers its ingredients be extracted from plant tissue by mechanical pressing, distillation or CO2. These clean processes generate pure fragrant healthy oils and extracts. Badger does not use ingredients that have been solvent extracted (using hexane, petroleum, acetone, etc), chemically refined, bleached, deodorized, reconstituted or hydrogenated. We require Certificates of Analysis and of Authenticity from our suppliers, and a guarantee that they did not test on animals.
How are our ingredients grown? We like to learn as much as possible about the growing practices of each of our ingredients and we visit the farms on which our key ingredients are grown. Whenever possible, Badger uses ingredients that are Certified Organic, Biodynamically Farmed, Certified Fair Trade, Ecologically Harvested and/or Wild Crafted. These sensible agricultural practices minimize our impact on the earth, benefit workers, and keep chemical fertilizer and pesticide residue out of our products. The majority of our products will be USDA certified organic by August 2008.
Are we different? Our strict standards limit what products we can make, but what we do make is the most natural stuff on Earth. Just look at the ingredients on any of our products. You’ll see how truly natural we are.
