Badger's organic and fair trade cocoa butter is produced by La Cooperativa Agraria Industrial Naranjillo Limitada in Peru. This cooperative was founded in 1964 by 32 farmers in the Naranjillo region of Peru, in response to the excessively low prices the farmers were receiving for their cocoa and coffee crops. Since 1974 the partners dreamed of having their own industrial plant, a dream that became a realty in 1985. Today, Naranjillo is the largest producer of organic cocoa in Peru.
La Cooperative Agraria Industrial Naranjillo became Fair Trade Certified by Fair Trade Labeling Organizations International (FLO) in 2004, and consistently strives to improve the quality of life for its farmers, as well as the quality of its cocoa. The cooperative is striving toward being fully certified organic, 77% of the cooperative members are certified organic at present. The Fair Trade price has enabled Cooperativa Agraria Industrial Naranjillo LTDa to establish various social and productive programs relating to: education, productive investment, environmental initiatives, financial credit, and women's rights.
