Badger Face Care Philosophy

Our Face Care line is based in the belief that the best skin care regimen is one that mimics your body’s natural system. The idea behind bio-mimicry is that nature is our mentor, already having solved many complex challenges while maintaining healthy overall balance. Just as eating food that is whole grain, minimally processed, natural and organic is easiest for your body to digest, using whole botanicals that are certified organic and minimally processed is easiest for your skin to absorb. These plant oils and botanicals are made up of the same natural building blocks as the oil produced by your skin, making them ideal skin soothers.

Balance is key. The goal is not to completely remove oil from your skin. Your skin needs oil to moisturize and protect it from the elements! Instead, the goal is to achieve balance so your skin is clean, healthy, and vibrant, and lets your natural beauty shine through. As we go about our day, dirt, pollution, and other impurities get trapped within the oil on our face. Until recently, the belief was that oil itself clogs pores. In truth, a number of factors such as hormones and the buildup of bacteria and dead skin cells clog pores and can cause breakouts. Oil cleansing is a gentle and simple way to dissolve facial oil congested with bacteria, dead skin cells, dirt and build-up and replace it with fresh, clean, vibrant plant oils.

And healthy skin is not just about what you put on it. Healthy skin is a reflection of a healthy body. So drink lots of water, eat nutritious whole foods, practice moderation in sun exposure, laugh and smile with friends and family - and healthy, glowing skin will follow.

Each of our cleansing oils was designed with a specific skin type in mind.  We encourage you to choose the cleansing oil that resonates with your skin type.

>Badger’s Philosophy on Holistic Face Care
Healthy and beautiful skin requires a holistic approach to self-care.

  • Nourish your body with exercise, nutrient rich food, fresh water, and deep sleep.  Begin within and work your way outwards.  Once you find your inner balance, beautiful and healthy skin will follow with minimal external preparations needed.
  • Cleanse gently with balanced plant oils. All cleansers require a hydrophobic (oil-loving) component to connect with the oil on your skin to remove dirt and impurities. Physically massaging the oil into your skin will cleanse your pores, removing the un-pure oil and replacing it with biocompatible oil that helps to balance, protect, and moisturize your skin.  The physical touch of your fingers massaging your skin in a circular motion will help to promote circulation and a feeling of self-love and appreciation.
  • Purify with water, gentle steam, and warmth. Warm water and steam opens pores, allowing for the oil treatment to cleanse more deeply.  Know your water quality and consider the water that you use on your face, as you would consider water that you would drink.
  • Exfoliate with a soft organic cotton washcloth. Physical exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells and encourage cell turnover, making your skin look fresh and glowing. We believe in physical exfoliation through gentle massage with a dry or damp organic cotton cloth.  You can choose the abrasiveness of the cloth based on the sensitivity of your skin.
  • Smooth skin’s appearance using nourishing, essential fatty acid-rich oils.  By using the right oils you are able to smooth the appearance of fine lines while replenishing and balancing oils removed during the cleansing process. Many moisturizers have unnecessary fillers that can clog pores and leave residue.  Water in moisturizing creams may help to deliver the active ingredients, but also may artificially hydrate the skin, inducing a cycle of immediate skin plumping followed by dryness, tightening, and cracking. Oils moisturize and nourish without water and unnecessary fillers, and help to improve skin with regular use.
  • Hydrate and retain moisture with intensive emollient and antioxidant rich balms.  The best hydration does not come from adding water to the skin, but rather from adding an emollient to lock in the skin’s natural moisture and prevent excessive evaporation. Particularly delicate areas of your skin, such as the skin under the eye, is more prone to moisture loss.  It is also good to use emollient products on parts of your skin that is frequently exposed to water or elemental exposure, such as the backs of your hands. Intensive emollient products do not need to be used all of the time, but they are an important supplementary element in your face care system.
  • Protect your skin for a lifetime with minerals. Broad-spectrum sunscreen is the only product truly proven to be anti-aging. The best protection comes from minerals that are in a power-packed base of antioxidant-rich botanicals that nourish and revitalize your skin. Sun protection should be used in combination with a life style that is respectful of the beauty and power of the great outdoors.
