Safe & Effective – Here at Badger we take pride in making what we consider to be the safest and most effective sunscreens on earth. We use the mineral zinc oxide as the only active ingredient providing broad spectrum protection (UVA and UVB). Our inactive ingredients are minimally processed, natural, organic, and good for your skin. Learn more about Badger Safety and Efficacy.
Easy to apply & non-greasy. – You will see this claim on our new sunscreen lotions. They are formulated in a lighter lotion base which is less viscous and easy to spread on the skin. The inactive ingredients quickly absorb into your skin so the greasy feeling goes away quickly.
organic tangerine essential oil sunscreen

Smells Great! – We put this claim on our two Kids sunscreens because we know that a good smell makes it so much easier to get kids to wear sunscreens. We used organic tangerine and vanilla to provide a friendly ‘creamsicle’ like scent. Yum!

Non nano zinc oxide sunscreen
Non-Nano – The zinc oxide in all of our sunscreens consists of particles that are larger than 100nm. More about our Zinc Oxide.
UVA-UVB-Broad-Spectrum-Sunscreen-Logo
UVA UVB – All of our sunscreens provide excellent broad spectrum protection from damaging UVA and sunburning UVB rays. More about UVA and Broad Spectrum.

water-resistant-sunscreen-40min-logo.png

Water Resistant – Our sunscreens with this claim have been independently tested to be equally effective after 40 or 80 minutes of swimming or sweating. More about Water Resistant Sunscreens.
Biodegradable Sunscreen Logo

Biodegradable – All of our sunscreens have passed independent biodegradability testing, meaning that they break down in the natural environment. More about Biodegradable Sunscreens.

NPA Natural Seal
% Certified Natural: All Badger sunscreens are 100% certified natural by Natural Products Association according to the Natural Seal Program. More about the NPA Natural Standard.
NSF Organic Logo
% Certified Organic: All Badger sunscreens contain 98% Certified Organic Ingredients (excluding minerals) and are certified to contain organic ingredients based on the NSF ANSI 305 Standard – Since all of our sunscreens use the mineral Zinc Oxide we are unable to certify to the USDA Organic Program (which is really a food standard and doesn't allow minerals). The NSF Contains Organic Program offers the most rigorous organic certification for personal care products. More about NSF Organic.
NON-Comedogenic sunscreen logo
Non-Comedogenic – All of Badger's sunscreens are made from all-natural ingredients that absorb readily to the skin and should not cause irritation to the pores. The term "non-comedogenic" is a claim that can only be made if the product has been tested by a dermatologist. Not all of Badger sunscreens have been tested, but those products bearing this claim have been tested to ensure that they do not block pores. Note: We only tested our SPF30 Unscented Sunscreen Cream for non-comedogenic, and it passed with flying colors. Our other sunscreen creams (Baby, Kids, Lavender & Sport) have the same ingredients (apart from small percentages of organic essential oils) and are equally suited for sensitive skin. Our Anti-Bug Sunscreen has a different base formula and cannot be relied on to be non-comedogenic. See our Non-Comedogenic Testing results.
hypoallergenic sunscreen logo
Hypoallergenic – “Hypo (lower) allergenic” means a lower chance of causing allergic reaction. According to the FDA “There are no Federal standards or definitions that govern the use of the term "hypoallergenic." The term means whatever a particular company wants it to mean.” In Badger’s case it means that the products we’ve labeled as ‘hypoallergenic’ have actually been tested by an independent laboratory to ensure that they have a minimal chance of causing any reactions with sensitive skin. This test was done on 50 adults with varying levels of skin sensitivities. Our Baby Sunscreen was applied under a patch to their backs in nine consecutive 24 hour periods and they were monitored for any reactions. After a 14 day rest, they were retested and re-evaluated. Our results: “Non Primary Irritant, Non Primary Sensitizer”. See our Hypoallergenic Testing results.
pediatrician tested sunscreen logo
Pediatrician Tested – The pediatrician claim requires the same testing that we conducted to make the hypoallergenic claim (see description above). These results were reviewed and approved by a consulting pediatrician who determines whether or not the product is deemed safe for use on babies and kids. Our results: “Non Primary Irritant, Non Primary Sensitizer” – Pediatrician Reviewed. See our Pediatrician Testing results.
Critical Wavelength Sunscreen UVA
Critical Wavelength – The FDA updated sunscreen regulations in June of 2011, which are now in effect as of December 2013. According to the new regulations, a critical wavelength test must be performed to validate any “broad Spectrum” claims. A sunscreen is considered broad spectrum if the critical wavelength results are greater than 370nm. Our results: 379-383nm. More about critical wavelength & see our testing results.
PA UVA Sunscreen Rating

PA+++ - This symbol is representative of the UVA Protection Grade (PA) or UVA Protection Factor UVA-PF, which is the result of the persistent pigment darkening (PPD) test. This test is conducted in-vivo (with human subjects) just as the SPF (Sun Protection Factor) test is conducted. This is the most rigorous form of UVA testing available worldwide. UVA-PF results are often labeled in three levels, PA+ being the lowest level of protection and PA+++ being the highest level of protection. Our Results: UVA-PF 5 for our SPF 15 (PA++) and UVA-PF 11 for our SPF 30 (PA+++). See one of our Sunscreen's UVA-PF Testing results.

UVA Sunscreen Logo

UVA - According to the EU, broad spectrum protection is determined by the ratio of UVA to UVB protection. A product must achieve a ratio of 1/3 UVA protection in order to achieve the broad spectrum label claim. The UVA protection is determined by the UVA-PF test and then calculated based on the SPF of the product. A product that has 1/3 UVA protection in relation to the UVB protection may bear this symbol. See one of our Sunscreen's UVA Testing results.
