First, let’s review the directions for using Badger cleansing oils.

  1. Massage cleansing oil onto a dry face in a circular motion until skin is covered.
  2. Use a wet, warm washcloth to steam open pores and gently remove oil, dirt, and makeup.
  3. Follow with Badger Face Oil for nourished skin that feels silky smooth.

Now, let’s dive into your questions!

Q: Can I use water alone to remove Badger cleansing oil?

A: No. As you probably remember from science class, water does not remove oil and vice versa. This is actually the premise (and magic) behind the oil cleansing method. Consequently, it also means that splashing water on your face will not remove Badger cleansing oil.

Q: Do I have to use a washcloth?

A: Because water alone will not remove cleansing oil, you will need some physical means of doing so.

I like a washcloth personally because it can be washed and reused. Plus, you can use it wet or dry, hot or cool.

However many of my friends prefer tissue or cotton rounds for the convenience. As long as you’re physically removing most of the cleansing oil, you may use whatever floats your boat!

In addition to removing cleansing oil, a soft washcloth provide a very mild exfoliation for the face. Because it is gentle, you don’t have to worry about damaging your delicate skin. Yet a washcloth is powerful enough to slough dead skin cells away. Furthermore gentle exfoliation encourages cell turnover, which can help your skin look brighter.

A favorite method of some of my fellow Badgers is to apply cleansing oil before getting in the shower. The steam from the shower opens pores, and any remaining oil can be wiped away at the end using a towel.

Q: Can I use soap to remove Badger cleansing oils?

A: While soap is very good at removing Badger cleansing oil, it goes against the idea of the oil cleansing method!

Because soap can strip your face of its natural oils, it can upset the balance and cause dryness or oil overproduction. The OCM is a gentle alternative to cleansing with soap - so cleansing with soap following the OCM is unnecessary.
