Side by Side: Badger Lip Balm

Which Badger lip balm is right for you?

Pucker up lippie fans—it’s time to talk Badger lip balm.

At the time of publishing, Badger makes over 20 different lip balms in five categories: classic, cocoa butter, herbal, tint, and sunscreen. So Badger has all your lip balm needs covered! From shoveling snow to surfs up (and everything in between), Badger’s got your back.

But with so many to choose from, Badger fans often ask: “Which one is right for me?”

Read on to discover which Badger lip balm is right for you.

Classic

Badger lip balm - classic

Badger’s Classic Lip Balms work just like a product that rhymes with “slapstick” but without icky petroleum. Instead, we use edible organic extra virgin olive oil for our base ingredients.

Because edible > petrol byproducts, especially when it comes to your mouth.

They feel light when applied and glide smoothly and quickly over lips. They keep lips moisturized and soft, and you’ll hardly even know they’re there.

And while these may be classic, they are by no means basic. We’ve created unique combinations of Lavender & Orange, Ginger & Lemon, and exotic Vanilla Madagascar, as well as classics such as Tangerine Breeze and Highland Mint. However, the standout in this line is the Unscented, which seemingly brings joy to every pair of lips it touches.

Cocoa Butter

Badger Lip Balm - cocoa butter

A few key things differentiate our Cocoa Butter Lip Balm from our Classics. The first, and most notable, is right in the name: cocoa butter.

But this isn’t your grandma’s cocoa butter. This minimally processed wonder ingredient retains a light, chocolatey scent. It’s rich, thick, and super-moisturizing, so it’s a great one to reach for if you live in a dry climate or just need a little extra TLC. However, because of the thicker consistency, it doesn’t glide on the lips as quickly as our Classics.

Additionally, the raw cocoa butter adds chocolatey undertones to each blend. So Sweet Orange is reminiscent of chocolate orange and Cool Mint is like an Andes candy. Even the Creamy Cocoa blend is not completely unscented. Even with no added fragrance it has a subtle cocoa butter aroma.

Another big difference there is so much goodness in our Cocoa Butter Lip Balms that we had to make the stick bigger. So you get almost twice the amount of lip balm, meaning they last a long time. If you don’t lose them, that is.

Herbal

Badger Lip Balm - Herbal Tea Tree and Lemon Balm

If you’re looking for a lip balm that brings some zing to your kisser, opt for the herbal. It has a minty tingle and the added support of tea tree and lemon balm. Good stuff to soothe your lips and protect them from the elements. Choose from either Classic Herbal Lip Care or Cocoa Butter Herbal Lip Care.

Sunscreen Lip Balm

It’s important to note that currently, only one Badger Lip Balm contains sunscreen. Our SPF 15 Lip Balm is our Unscented Classic Lip Balm with zinc oxide added, so it moisturizes while it protects. We worked hard on this one to make sure you don’t look too spooky while wearing it. However, it does contain zinc oxide, so expect some whitening.

Certifications: NPA Certified Natural, NSF certified to contain organic ingredients, Leaping Bunny (no animal testing), Biodegradable. Features non-nano zinc oxide, broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection.

Jentri’s Picks

I have too many favorites (if there even is such a thing) because I use different Badger Lip Balms at different times of the year. Summertime never sees me without my perennial Pink Grapefruit Classic Lip Balm. Whereas now, as the air gets dry and the wood stove lit, I turn to my favorite Vanilla Bean Cocoa Butter Lip Balm to keep my lips soft. And I always have my SPF 15 Lip Balm handy, in case any adventures crop up. Around the holidays, I love the Cinnamon Bay Classic Lip Balm, as well as the Chai Rose and Peppermint. And honorable mention goes to Mocha Cocoa Butter Lip Balm, Lime Rocket Cocoa Butter Lip Balm, and probably all of the other ones too because I have seriously never met a Badger lip balm that I didn’t like.
