When Seasons Change So Should Your Oil Cleansing Routine

Have you ever noticed how your face can feel a bit oily during the warm, muggy summer months but then feel brittle and dry during the colder months? Have you ever found it challenging to keep your face clean without over drying or over moisturizing it? I’ve discovered that what works for me during the summer doesn’t always work in the winter, and vice versa.

We all know that we should change our skincare routine each season, right? So here are some Badger tips for keeping your face clean and happy, season after season, using the fabulous oil cleansing method.

Skincare Cleansing for Warmer Weather

Somehow, I have managed to live only in places with very humid summers. Hot temperatures + high humidity = continuous perspiration. In Indiana, where I grew up, we would joke that even if you had just enjoyed a refreshing shower, the minute you stepped out of the bath your body would start to perspire again. Oh, the glories of humidity.

Argan Cleansing Oil

In order to remove all that sweat and buildup and ensure a clean face, I love using our Argan Face Cleansing Oil. Out of all our Face Cleansing Oils, this one has the largest percentage of Castor, a detoxification ingredient that does a great job of deep cleaning my face, so much so that sometimes it can be a little over drying. (Note: If your skin is naturally drier to begin with, then the Argan Face Cleansing Oil is probably not right for you.) But when it’s warm and humid out, Argan is the one I reach for every time because I know my face will feel clean and my skin balanced for the rest of the day.

Once I’m finished using the Oil Cleansing Method, I follow up with either a face sunscreen lotion (especially if I plan to go outside), or a drop of the Argan Face Oil for added protection and moisture.

Skincare Cleansing for Colder Weather

Once the leaves crunch under my feet and I start wearing scarves again, I know it’s time to switch-up my oil cleansing routine. During the colder months, my face becomes dry and tight, leaving me anxious about cleaning it for fear of drying my skin even more. Good thing there are different steps I can take to ensure my face remains clean and balanced as during the warmer months.

Damascus Rose Cleansing Oil

Desiring a more gentle approach, I whole-heartedly embrace using the Damascus Rose Face Cleansing Oil. With a low percentage of Castor Oil, it cleanses my skin without over drying, and features organic Damascus Rose Oil, an essential oil made from true rose blossoms handpicked at dawn and gently steam distilled the very same day. This precious oil is antioxidant-rich and leaves my skin feeling soft, rejuvenated and refreshed.

While I still love using the traditional Oil Cleansing Method, which calls for a wet, warm washcloth to steam open my pores and gently wash my face, other Badgers have found alternative, even gentler approaches to cleansing their face during the colder months. Badger Emily recently discovered the benefits of using the Dry Oil Cleansing Method. This approach is nearly identical to the traditional approach, only you use a dry washcloth instead of a wet washcloth to wipe off the cleansing oil. No water ever touches your face!

Once I’ve finished cleansing my face, I follow up with either the SPF 15 Unscented Sunscreen (especially if I plan to go outside), or the Damascus Rose Beauty Balm. Both of these options nourish and moisturize while protecting my skin from the elements.

More Cleansing Tips for a Happy Face

If you’re finding that your face is still a bit dry or oily after trying the above suggestions, then try these additional tips:

  • Increase or decrease the amount of cleansing: If your face is oilier during the warmer months, then try using the Argan Face Cleansing Oil twice a day instead of once a day. If your face is really dry during the colder months, then try cutting back on how often you cleanse. Sometimes, I cleanse just once every 2-3 days!
  • Use more or less moisturizer: During the warmer months, I find that I don’t always need to follow up with a moisturizer. However, I always use a sunscreen if I’m planning to go outside. If you’re staying indoors, feel free to skip this step! The humid air is doing a great job already of keeping your skin nice and moisturized. As for the colder months, try the opposite approach. Apply a Beauty Balm every night before bedtime as an overnight intensive treatment. Your skin will benefit from a bounty of nutrients and feel smooth and supple.

So even though it’s normal for your skin to react to the changing seasons, those reactions don’t have to be negative. By thinking ahead and embracing the weather, your skin can be balanced and glowing all year round.
